Other than that one (very, very impossible) tech the technologies for weapons are advanced but plausible, mostly laser/graser systems and standoff missiles that use bomb-pumped lasers, and by writing hard limitations into the "gravity wedge drive" tech he sets up interesting tactical situations. The ships there have a peculiar variation on the general "gravity drive" that eliminates the need for reaction mass, allows for extreme acceleration rates that make combat maneuvering meaningful, and even provide a limited defense that has gaps for enemies to exploit through clever positioning. A decent example would be David Weber's Honor Harrington series. There are plenty of fictional alternatives to reaction drives, but they all call at least some "impossible" science that's probably always going to be magic (unlike, say, advances in science making inducing atomic fission viable).
